at fault accidents... where else does it get reported?

What is the name of your state? CA..

Dear Users,

In an effort to reduce the cost of my insurance, I am trying to change insurance carriers. However an at fault accidents poped up at the new insurer.

The accident was that while leaving the parking lot on a foggy day-- I hit the right door of my car in a light post that was in the exit of the parking. I had just moved the care... about 5 meters...

My new insurer says this is at fault and is increasing my premium by about $600. They said they found about the accident at the DMV---

Is this possible--- what I think happened is that they contacted my previous insurer. Can my previous insurer release this information?

Any advices would be greatly appreciated-- especially about this being kept by the DMV...

Thanks...

It's True

Any time you start a new Insurance policy/ carrier they do a check with the DMV of each licensed driver that will be covered by the policy, this is how they determine who is elegible for coverage and the true driving history of each policy holder. sorry but that's exactly how they found out.
