forced place auto insurnace

My son uses my address as his residence. He stays with me very litte. My auto insurance company notified me that usnless I provide them proof that he has auto insurance elswhere they are going to add him to my policy which will double my premium. Can they do this? I live in Michigan.

Yes. Most auto policy applications require you to list all licensed drivers in the household. Premiums are based on the total exposure. So you have 2 options, add him to the policy or he changes his address.
