gap insurance but NO auto insurance

What is the name of your state? North Carolina My brother in-law had purchased a brand new Ford p/u in Oct. of 2005 the insurance expired(on 2nd notice)on March 8th.He had gap insurance through thru Ford Credit. He then wrecked his truck March 14 in a high speed chase that ended in flames. How does or how much does the gap insurance cover if any. My father in-law co-signed on the truck so we dont want it to fall back on him. Help us at brianandamy@gotricounty.com

Gap insurance it meant to cover the difference between ACTUAL CAR VALUE and LOAN AMOUNT if the car is totaled.

Since YOU had NO INSURANCE at all. YOU might be sunk for the full amount !!!

I believe there may be a provision in the gap insurance that will say it is void if auto insurance with full collision/comprehensive coverage is not maintained. Check the policy documents or call to be sure, but since having full coverage insurance is a requirement of the loan, I pretty much doubt if he'll get anything from the gap policy.

By the way, high speed chase ending in flames? That jerk shouldn't be driving anyway!!!
