Hit ad Run?

Hey guys.

Today I was parked in a parking lot, and as I was backing out, I very minorly tapped another car. I don't beleive anybody saw it, and the damage on the other car (if any at all) was as minor as a slight paint job scratch.

I panicked and drove away quickly.

Assuming nobody saw this, I am off the hook right? I know I probably should have left a note but the damage was so minor that I didn't feel it was necessary.

Any thoughts/comments about this, please and thank you.

Supposed to be that you are in violation of hit and run. Its probably not likely anyone saw anything. If thats the case. It is impossible for anyone to track you down.

Is there a certain amount of days I need to wait until I can be confident that nobody saw/reported anything? In retrospect I wish I left a note but it's too late now.

Based on my experiance, it is very UNLIKELY that any one saw it! Even if they did. I never heard of anyone going through that kind of trouble jotting down license numbers. MOST people couldn't care less! (I sure wouldn't bother!) Especially if its just a tiny little incident. And besides, it would be a lot of trouble for someone to get a paper and pencil and "catch" that license with in those few seconds.

thank you, sir, for your response.

you honestly calmed me down a little bit.

I just turned 18 a while ago, and I'm really not a bad kid...but I perhaps need to work on my parking.

Last week (on my birthday actually) i had a simmilar inncident and was actually caught (with a witness as well). luckily i only got charged for failure to report (not failure to remain), but i am still going through a lawyer to try and fight it seeing as I don't want my insurance to rise (not to mention the 3 Demerit points).

I feel rather irresponsible, and even a little criminal for the first time in my life. It sucks...but i just hope both these inncidents pass over and I learn from my mistakes without having to pay huge consequences.

Lets just hope it was just a LITTLE scratch like you said now. Just be sure it doesn't happen again. Cause your luck can change in a instant!

Not a bad guy, eh? I hope someone saw you. All you had to do was leave a note, call your insurance company, and let them take care of it for you. Instead, you ruined someone's day and cost them a bunch of money. I hope you're proud of yourself.

Actually, sir, I do not think that the owner of the vehicle will even notice the insignificant mark (and although that does not justify what I did, It still holds some merit against "ruining his day and costing him a lot of money").

I'm not proud about it. I do appreciate your honesty though.

Whether the person was going to notice or care about it was not your choice to make, it was the owner's. You should have given him the OPTION to file a claim and get it fixed at no cost to him.
