hit&run

What is the name of your state? AL
My car was hit on private property. Side-swipped by someone else as they were leaving the same residence and failed to tell me. Since it was on private property, what actions can I pursue? Not too much damage, it's more about the principle.

Can I get the police involved? Isn't it the same as leaving the scene of an accident? My thought is, since they did it this time-it'll happen again.

I didn't know if they could do anything since it was on private property. What can they inforce? I thought it would be better to go to the person, but they don't want to be responsible.

If you didn't know if the police could not anything, you should've asked them. If you weren't sure what the police could enfore, you should've asked them. Ask them now.

Have you turned this into your insurance company yet? If you have collision coverage, your insurance should cover the repairs less your deductible, then they'll go after the other person IF they think the other person was at-fault. If they can recover from the other person, you get your deductible back. It's fine that you were trying to handle this on a one-on-one basis, but the other guy isn't going to pay if they think they don't have to. In the meantime, you're cruisin' around in a beat-up car.
