State of TX (TEXAS)!
Here's what happened. It was pouring rain last week, and I was pulling out from work. I made a right turn out of work onto a frontage road off of the highway and continued driving as usual. Long story cut short, about making five or six turns, I noticed this woman kept following me. So I got out of my car and walked up to her, and she said she was calling the police because I had hit her car. I looked at her car and there was a small dent on the side.
I did not even know I was involved in this collision, so I said all right, whatever, and got back in my car, and she drove off in a different direction. I called up the police, in case I wanted to file a claim against her since I believe the accident was her fault, and I was informed that if I didn't return to the scene of the accident, that I would be charged with a misdemeanor hit and run... but it is ON TAPE... that If I return, then I won't be charged with hit and run.
All right...
So I went back and the cop asked what happened ? and I said "I don't care to share, unless I'm required to by law" ... It was probably a stupid thing to do but I was really P.O.'d at the time. He took about twenty minutes and then returned with a citation, one for failure to maintain financial responsibility ... I didn't put an updated card in my car (so that's easily contestable) ... but the other one doesn't make as much sense to me. I've scanned it and posted it on my web site so that you can view it. It says "FAIL TO LEAVE ID PUBLIC ST. (next line) ATTENDED M/V"...
Here is the original copy of my ticket, with sensitive information edited out: http://thefoxbox.net/ticket.jpg
Here's the problem, though.
It says something completely different on the web site where I can go to to pay my fine. It says this:
ACCIDENT WITH DAMAGE UNDER $200 -- Fine: $293.00
OK, that has nothing to do with failure to display ID does it? I'm totally confused.
Can I get this thrown out because what the fine is isn't what the ticket is written for?
HELP HELP HELP and thanks
