Hit and Run

I live in Alberta, Canada, so I hope I can get some help here. I can't seem to find the equivalent in Canada.
About a month ago I let a friend practice driving with my parent's car. She had only her learner's permit, and I'm still on my graduated license, so technically she needed a fully licensed driver with her. She turned a corner too quickly and hit a private hedge. We were worried only about my parents knowing, so I went home and told them I was the on driving. The police showed up that night because someone had taken down my license plate number, and let me know that I'd committed a hit and run. I told them the same story as my parents. Now I have to appear in court in a week, and would rather tell the truth. Is the only charge I'm facing lying to a police officer, or am I also responsible for the hit and run? Please let me know what will likely occur.
Thank you!
