Hit and run - driver ID

What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Virginia

Five car accident, first 4 vehicles stopped in traffic, rear-ended by Vehicle#5 creating chain reaction. My vehicle (#2) front end damaged probably $2-3k of damage. All vehicles driveable from scene. No one injured.

Driver of Vehicle #5 left scene. Bystander got tag number and reported to police. All parties saw Vehicle#5 leaving. Police advise they have found driver at home later that night, smelled of alcohol, initially didn't admit to accident, then admitted but thought it was a fender bender. Vehicle broke down about 1 mile away from accident. Police found vehicle and noted significant damage. Police indicate Veh#5 was supposely insured and have his policy information.

Police advise they are gathering information to get arrest warrant for hit n' run felony charge.

Questions:
(1) Police won't provide any details on driver or his insurance (other than to say it's an Allstate policy), when do they have to?
(2) Should I contact Allstate and provide them police contact and indicate one of their insured involved in accident?
(3) Would having my own lawyer speed this process?

My insurance company indicates I should not repair or dispose of vehicle until this is settled (I have already taken photos of vehicle) which adds to the pain.

When their investigation is finished there will be a police report that can be obtained.

Yes, call a claim into Allstate.
