What is the name of your state? North Carolina

About a month ago I was sitting at a stop sign on a small road
and someone does a u-turn and hits my car and leaves,
does about $800 damage. Later he is arrested for 3 other
hit-and-runs in the same day. It turns out the guy was drunk
and stole the car and he doesn't have any kind of insurance.

When I went to get the police report I was told by the police man
that filled out the report that I was to take this to the owner of the
stolen car's insurance agency and they would cover the damages.

I went to the insurance agency and they denied me because they
said it was a stolen car and they are not liable.

Later this week I happened to the see the policeman in a store and he
asked me how everything with my car was going and I told him I was
denied from the insurance company because it was a stolen car, he
told me that this is common for them to deny people in a similar situation,
and told me to sue the insurance company of the car that was stolen.

Is this right? Should the insurance company of the stolen car be liable?

insurance goes with the car not the driver in some states. it does sound right to me. you sue the insurance company and they will have to sue the car thief to recoup their money back. consult an attorney. what does your insurance say about it?

That's why I'm here basically, my insurance company said he wasn't quite sure
what to do about it, but I am covered by my own insurance with a $250
deductible and I was told my insurance would go up if I chose to use
my own insurance to fix the damages.

I'd rather just pay for everything out of my pocket than have my insurance
go up and a $250 deductible.
