My 18 year old nephew hit a telephone 2 weeks ago and left the scene since there was no damage to the pole (but plenty to his car). He thought he was in the clear until NC State police showed up at his school today and threatend to arrest him if he didnt tell the truth. He readily admitted that he hit the pole and left. They did not arrest him but they did give him a citation with a court date. Does any one know what he is up against? He is terrified!

Thanks

Leaving the scene of an accident. Depending on his story, he could also face something like wreckless driving. Make sure he gets his story straight.

You can research your state laws to determine if the accident was required to be reported. Most states put a $ figure on the requirement of reporting.

If the accident was not required to be reported, then the charges are not just.

You claim there was no damage to the pole but I have seen very few accidents that did not damage the pole. As well, the impact may have caused damages you were not aware of such as line damage.

Wreckless driving (4 insurance points) and leaving the scene of an accident with property damage (another 4 insurance points). He will probably lose his driver license due to his age and depending on how long he has had his license.
