What is the name of your state? California :) If I hit a parked car that is parked illegally, i.e. non-compact car parked in a compact space and not pulled completely in, am I liable for any damages to the parked car's owner? or, is the owner of this misparked vehicle liable to me?

My response:

You're the one on the hook. It is of no moment where the car is parked - - it could have been parked in the middle of the street, and that still wouldn't give you a "license" to damage someone else's property. The fact remains, the car was there, and you had a duty to do no damage. You failed in that duty.

The lay person's definition of "negligence" is - -

"Those who look, but do not see, are negligent."
