What is the name of your state? CALIFORNIA
A car rolled down a hill & hit my moms house. It did 10k damage. The mans insurance company says california law only requires you have 5k property damage insurance & that is all they are paying. I don't live in california but it seams like small amount. She will have to turn it in to her insurance & pay a deductable & a possable increase in her policy. It doesn't seem quit right. How do you find out how much he was insured for. Any ideas.

If the insured policy does not cover the damage, consider suing the owner of the vehicle. It is his fault he does not have enough coverage.

Be careful if the insurance company offers you the $5k. They will ask that you sign a release for all claims against their insured. You can ask the other insurance carrier for proof of his policy limits.

To potentially recover all that is owed to you, you would have to file a lawsuit in the Limited Jurisdiction of the Superior Court, get a judgment and then collect. OR, your mom lets her insurance company pay for the repairs and be done with it.
