I don't know where else I should ask this...

I live in Georgia.

I don't really see a section where this question seems appropriate, so I guess I will stick it in here, along with other auto related questions. Also, this is pretty much rhetorical; I am curious primarily because I drive an old and not especially reliable car.

What salvage rights, if any, are applicable to an abandoned car? How are they different on private and public property? How could someone go about re-titling or changing ownership of a salvaged vechicle? Is it done differently when a vehicle is old? Because in GA, cars that are 20 years old (I think) don't require a title, only a bill of sale.

Any insight would be appreciatede. I've been seized with the sudden, paranoid conviction that my car is going to get towed right from under my hands as I am trying to put on new brake shoes.

Call your local DMV office.

Oh, my, aren't YOU incredibly helpful.
And isn't it the "Department of Drivers' Services" or somesuch baloney, now?

It's Sunday; they aren't open today. They aren't open tomorrow, either. Even then, were I actually to find a moment to call them, all you ever get is a recording on an answering machine. Believe me, I know. I kept trying to call them with questions regarding some problems getting my CDL.
Also, I don't get off work until they are long closed; and I am already on the road long before they are sipping coffee.

Now. Does anyone else have any input, besides stating the painfully obvious?
