infant settlement

Hi we live in Virginia....We are about to go to a hearing on my 17 yr old daughters settlement from an auto accident that happened in 2002 then 15 yrs old..Does anyone know what an infant settlement is?? This is stated on the court papers.And what is court appointed gaurdianship?
