I am a 20 year old male who has been driving for four years. I have no tickets or accident history. I was previously on my parents' insurance. I am trying to get liability insurance for a 1990 vehicle. I have printed out the average premium charge that was listed on the New York State Insurance page. The chart showed a 20 year old male and what they would expect to pay from about 30 different insurance companies. I have called all these companies and my lowest quote was double what the NYS Insurance guide stated. Why am I having such a hard time? I know alot of people my age who are payimg for full coverage for what I am being quoted for just minimum coverage.

Age and driving record are note the only factors. Premium rates also consider marital status, the type of vehicle and where you live amoung other things.

A couple of examples would be: 1.) a single male under 25 driving a Corvette or 4WD truck would have the highest rates for liability insurance amoung those with clean driving records. 2.) Comprehensive coverage rates would be highest for cars that have a high theft incidence and are not garaged and are located in certain ares of some cities.

Contact those folks you know and ask them who they bought their insurance from.
