Irreplacable family heirloom lost

I reside in Michigan
My grandmother gave my grandfather a White Dress Silk Scarf for his 30th Birthday in 1921. My grandfather died when I was 2 so I never knew him. When I was 18 (1967) my grandmother gave me that scarf for Christmas. Since that time, I have only worn it on Christmas Eve, Day and New Years, it has become a personal tradition and very much part of my Christmas. Being some 80 years old, I have been very careful about having it cleaned, taking it to a trusted dry cleaners that I have used for some 20 years and only every 2 years. They know the history of the scarf, as I relate it to them every time I take it in to be cleaned, requesting they please be very careful. This year they lost my grandfather's scarf. My mother just passed away in September - it was her father's scarf . I am heartbroken, it was my only connection to a grandfather that I never knew, my grandmother whom I loved very much - she passed away 20 years ago, and most recently a living memory of my mother. It was part of my heritage that now appears to be lost forever. Of course the scarf being 81 years old, I do not have any bill of sale or receipt and only my mother's surviving sister knows the history of the scarf and of course, my immediate family and friends. The people at the cleaning plant do not seem all that concerned which really is upsetting. Is there anything that I can do.

hey we'll answer....

What exactly do you want?

You took a scarf to the cleaners and they lost it?

I would have Payed EXTRA and sat there and waited for it to come back, there are signs all over here for ONE hour dry cleaning, but it costs 2 to 3 times the normal price.

You could have just sat and waited and read a book.

You didn't have it specially insured, so what is its worth? sentimental value is not a dollar amount.

If you would have posted in the correct forum, you may have received a response. A lost scarf has nothing to do with auto accidents. Have you tried the Small Claims or Litigation forums? Someone there may have an answer for you.
