MY SON WAS AWARDED A JUDGEMENT A FEW YEAR'S AGO , IN THE CITY OF HOUSTON , STATE OF TEXAS, ON A DOG MAULING CASE , HOWEVER THE LAWYER SAID WE CAN NEVER TOUCH ANY OF THE MONEY , UNTIL OUR SON TURNS 18 , IT'S INA TRUST WITH THE COURT , IS THAT TRUE ? AND IF NOT HOW CAN WE GAIN ACCESS TO A PORTION OF THE JUDGEMENT?

Dear Parent;

Were you given a copy of the judgement or order? It should explain in detail the amount of the judgement, how it is to be used/spent, who is responsible for overseeing it, etc.

If the lawyer didn't give you a copy, all you have to do is go to the court clerk's office and ask for it. This is public information and they will gladly let you review the file and make copies (for a small per page fee).

Sounds like your lawyer may be trying to scam you.

Good luck and let us know what you find out!
