Kid hiding under car...

My friend's car was parked and a 2 year old was hiding underneath his car. My friend started the engine and began to pull out when he heard the kid start to scream. The kid received cuts and scratches and his parents took him to the hospital.

What should may happen, and what should my friend do now?

do you think the kid's parents will retaliate and lie and say my friend ran over the kid, rather than admit they weren't watching him? I'm worried if the kid's parents are doing that right now, while telling my friend to his face oh yea, don't worry about it, blah blah blah.
