| | | losed car key Hello
Two weeks ago I have bought a car. Its two years old Volkswagen Jetta.
I have bought it form Volkswagen garage where I was informed that the spare key will be post to my home address. After two weeks the car became broken, so I took it back to the garage where I have been informed that the key was collected by someone else from my flat. I told them that it isn’t possible because at my address leave just my and my boyfriend and we didn’t received any package. They gave me copy of the signature of the person whom sign the delivery and told me that I need to call the Royal Mail and find out from them what’s happened and why the postman left my package with someone else if that was recorded delivery.
Now I will wake up every morning and ran to the window to check if my car is still on the car park or someone steal it.
My question is – Can I request from Volkswagen to replace all the locks, keys and ignition without charge me?
Your sincerely

| | | The VWs in the USA use a cut key as well as a chip that must be present for the car to run.
The dealer should be able to program your car so it will only run with your key, and delete any others. |

| | | I suspect she's not in the US since she used the phrase "post to my home address". Brit, probably.

| | | Given the level of english mastery, I'd guess somewhere non-english speaking.

| | | You're right. There has been a lot of bad grammar on this board (from U.S. citizens) and I didn't attribute this post to an out-of-the-country area.
At least this person was trying.

| | "Royal Mail" did it for me
In case Op does pop back, swarb.co.uk • Index page is pretty useful.
In any case, Volkswagen aren't going to be liable for replacing anything for free (and why would they?). The Post Office is also only obliged to have someone sign for the package - it doesn't have to be the named recipient which generally relieves the Post Office of liability (the item didn't get lost).
("Recorded Signed For" is used frequently by businesses who don't really want to wait until Mr Brit Bloke is actually around to sign for it)
Op can seek recourse from whoever did sign for the package.
