A mechanic repaired my car without permission, what can I do?

I took my car into a auto shop in Kissimmee, FL because the coolant was leaking, they changed two pipes and said the car would be fine. I paid them 98 dollars and went on my way. 2 days later my car broke down and the coolant was leaking again, I called the repair shop and told them the problem, they told me to tow the car in, so i towed it to the shop and left it with them, they said they would call me when they were not so busy.

Later that day I called them and asked them what what wrong with my car, they said that another pipe was leaking that they had not seen before and that my head gasket may need repair or replacement as it was probably damaged now as they couldn't get the car to start, they were not sure if the gasket was cracked or whether it needed to be 'trimmed' up. I told them to find out and give me a call back to let me know what exactly was wrong with my car and the costs so that I could decide whether to have the work done or not as my car was very old and has a lot of milage on it. They said this would take them 3 days to get back to me as they were busy and would call me back to let me know, but as a guess they said the worse case scenrio would be about $750 but would do the diagnosis and call me back to give me an estimate. I told them I couln't afford $750 and would probably not have the work done unless it would cost me under $500, so i told them to please let me know as soon as possible (this conversation was all on the phone)

4 days later i received a message on my answering machine saying my car was ready to be picked up. To my shock they had repaired the gasket, replaced something near the turbo, replaced my spark plugs, and replaced a hose, along with a few other things and where charging me for the tow and labor. they told me I owed them 850 dollars and to pick up the car and pay.

I don't know what to do, I told them i didn't give them permission to do this, they never gave me any quote in writing or vebally and never even called me back to verbally tell me what the actual damage was after they had diagnosed.

They are saying that i must pay and pick up the car, what do I do? I need advise.

PLEASE HELP.

Thanks
