minor accident

I was involved in a minor acccident in august of last year. i was not at fault, but i did not have insurance so i did not file an accident report. the accident took place on private property, a gas station, and i was told that i did not need to file a report. eight months later, i find out that my license is suspended and i am being sued for $2800 dollars. no one ever notified me of anything, including the dmv. i just found out about this when my truck broke down on the freeway by the state highway patrol man. so i filed a court date in the small claims court and my question is what do i do now? does anyone have any pointers to what i should say in court? thank-you, kristy
