We all live in Montana. A friend's son at age 16 was in auto accident 2 years ago. He was cited -- slid into truck-horse trailer at first winter storm. She is single mom no assets, carried minimum liability on truck - titled to her but son was driving. Her insurance totaled other truck and horse trailer - policy maximum $25,000 property. Other driver's policy paid the difference and then sent her letter requesting $9000. She is self employed and owns nothing. The insurance verbally offered to settle with her for $5000 a few months ago. Yesterday her son was served papers for civil lawsuit at his high school from insurance co. He is now 18 years old. Can insurance hold minor financially responsible when they turn 18? He owns nothing either - still in high school, living on his own- only income is army reserve.

They sure can. When he accepted the privilege to drive he also accepted financial responsibility that come with driving.
