need advices

3 years ago, my car was rear ended while stopping at the traffic light. The other party didn't have insurance. All the cost was paid by my insurance using uninsured motorist coverage. Recently I have a letter from the lawyer of the insurance company (it is not a subpoena) to appear for court trial/hearing between insurance company and the person who hit me. Do I have any obligation to appear in the trial/hearing? One of the reason we buy insurance is to avoid going to the court.
Please note that the insurance company got my signed testimony and the police report.
I live in CA.

Does it say why? If you received a subpoena, you must appear. The reason is they are probably trying to collect the money they paid you from this uninsured motorist, despite your settlement with the insurance company.
