Let me get my crystal ball.

In fact, you are so astonishingly correct in this matter, it will not surprise us one bit if you are offered a generous settlement, because, by golly, that’s just how it should be.

Crystal Ball

Is it a crystal ball thing or just finding someone who knows the settlement guidelines? If it is a crystal ball thing, how in the heck is an attorney going to help us?

Do you have a brain? Your wife was out of work for one day. The trucking company paid the damages to the car.

You are out her medical bills, Go add them up.

For more useful advice, yes I think you need an attorney. I really think it's the only way to get a fair settlement amount, unless for some reason you end up with a very generous adjustor...and I'm not sure those acutally exist.

The guy has been compensated for the car. The victim was released with no injury. This happened over a year ago.
The guy is just trying to ride the money train.

That's not what he said. He clearly stated there were injuries and 1.5 years of medical treatment. Either way though, only a lawyer familiar with his case can tell him what the case is worth, if anything. YOU certainly aren't qualified or informed enough to tell him.

You don't have to be a rocket scientist to read his other posts, try it, you may get informed.

And none of this changes the fact that OP needs to speak with a lawyer to get an accurate answer...
