What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Arizona
I sustained injuries that are preventing me from working as a pedestrian in a crosswalk, approx. one month ago. At that time, I retained an attorney from a commericial I saw on t.v. Since I am self employed and have no income, I am hurting financially and need some compensation now. When I called my attorney to see why it was taking so long to get any money, they told me they were waiting on the police report. The lady who hit me already took responsibility for the accident, and my question is, 'why is it taking so long for my attorney to get this police report, and how can I speed up the process so that I can eat'?

Speak with your attorney.

We can't answer a question about why someone is doing something.

You don't get money until you have completed your treatment. This is not something that you will get money for now or quickly. Your attorney may have some ideas, but you're going to have to find some way to take care of yourself while you recover.

Unfortunately, most people do not realize how flimsy our social support networks are in this country. We have passed out and repeated this drivel about all the undeserving welfare cheats and deadbeats receiving social services until they're very miserably ungenerous and very hard for people in genuine need to access. In other words unless you are privately wealthy, you are pretty much on your own if life hands you a devastating blow. If you are injured and you're self employed, there's nothing much out there for you except this meager social services network such as SNAP until and unless the lawsuit is over and done with and you prevail. I suppose the payday loan places or title loan places are other possibilities.

Around here, the people who advertise on tv are pretty much ambulance chasers, as they're nicknamed, they're very interested in your eventual payday, how you make it till that payday comes, not so much. The commercials are all about the lawyers handing the guy a check (which may happen eventually, much lightened by their fees) but don't get them mixed up with that "I have a structured settlement and I NEED CASH NOW!"commercial, which is another way they are about to seriously rip you off but in another situation.
