What is the name of your state? Ohio
The newspaper carrier sideswiped our car. He had no insurance & was driving with a suspended liscense. Our car is totaled. Can we go after the newspaper he worked for to get payment for damages? We only had liability insurance on our car, & no uninsured motorist coverage (big mistake) so we can't get any help from our insurance. Please let me know our options.
Thank you!

Unless the newspaper carrier is an employee of the newspaper, it may be difficult. Many carriers are independent operators.

While BigFoot is correct that carriers are independent contractors, there is a responsibility on the part of the newspaper to insure their agents comply with the laws of their state in regards to insurance and legally operating a motor vehicle, including being a licensed driver.

Go see an attorney. You will need help but from the slim facts you presented here you may have a back door into the newspaper's liability.

Just for your information, uninsured motorist would not fix your car even if you had it. It is for medical injuries. Sit down with your agent and have him/her explain what all the different coverages mean and what they cover.
Don't cheap out when it comes to your insurance coverage.
