Not really an Accident but invloves a vehicle!

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? FL
Ok, so this advice is for a friend of mine actually not me, but here goes. Ok, so he met this woman through a family member and she apparently gets cars/vehicles from auctions/ or some other forms of auctions and then sells them for very cheap prices. Well, she asked for 1500 up front to get a vehicle shipped from Maine to Jacksonville, FL and then would give him the car for a great price once it arrived. She gave him some signed receipt, but he as yet to see the car, and everytime he contacts her to ask about it, she answers and says some thing about how the guy driving the cars from point a to point b, needs more time, and blah blah blah. He has a witness to giving her the cahsiers check and he still has the receipt, is this liable in court? He is fed up with this woman and I personally think, from the beginning, that it was a huge scam. Is there any legal action he can pursue to get his money back??? thank you!

He can sue her in small claims court. Suing is the easy part ~ collecting is another story.

This sounds like one of those scams you see people trying to pull on craigslist. Send me the check and I'll ship the car to you.

Does this woman work for a company of some sort that does this? Is this just some woman he met thru a family member or is she actually a good friend of the family member who they would vouch for as someone being ok to do this kind of business with?

Tell him to keep good records of names, conversations, etc. He may end up in court with her if things don't work out as promised.
