Situation:
Stepfather was murdered by security guard (outsourced from another company) while working. Security guard has been caught and faces 3 counts: murder, burglary, and robbery. Family is currently looking for an attorney to represent in all facets (workers' comp.; civil suits against assailant, and security company; and dealing with family law as to debts, custodies, etc.) as a result of the loss.
However, one lawyer referred another lawyer (both of whom will share 1/3 of settlement on a contingency basis - haven't decided to take the case yet), who then referred another lawyer to deal with workers' comp. settlement (requires approx. 15% of settlement).

Question: Another lawyer suggested a practitioner who will handle all aspects the family needs as opposed to seeking so many representations - noting that much money would be spent on lawyers' fees than necessary.

Feedback is requested immediately.

I am so sorry for the loss of your stepfather. It may be possible to find an excellent lawyer who does personal injury, family law, and workers comp, but these areas of the law are each becoming so specialized they are becoming rarer. If this was an injury from a car accident and you broke your leg, had deep internal injuries and had severe brain injuries, would you rather have a general surgeon do all the work, or a orthopedic do the leg work, the neurosurgeon do the surgery on the brain and a thoracic surgeon do the chest surgery?
Good luck!
