Ouch, this hurt!

I was injured in an auto accident while in Texas on vacation. The driver of the vehicle I was in was presumed at fault because she was citied for DWI. I have no health insurance, but the driver has only min.liability coverage and a small PIP. My medical bills are over double that. I spoke with an attorney in my home state but it sounded that my options were to take whatever I could from her insurance, try to sue the other driver, or sue the driver of the vehicle I was in.

I only wish to get the medical bills taken care of. Can I negotiate a settlement with the medical providers?

Her insurance has given me checks to pay for some expenses (up to the value of PIP)- I filed them until this gets closer to be settled. IN addition I received a letter advising that the insurance had submitted my file for authority. What does that mean?

Please clue me in - Thank you,

Gramma
