Overpaid by insurance co.

I received a settlement from an accident in which I was no at fault. I was paid by the at faults insurance companie twice, receiving a check in the mail. Am I required by law to return the ove payment?

Yes you are required to return the overpayment because:

1) although it was their mistake, you knew it was a mistake.

2) if you don't return it, they can charge you with some form of theft.
