Personal Injury

What is the name of your state? NJ

I agreed to a settlement between myself and 3 defendents. Is there a legal time limit the defendants have to make payment. I signed the release forms on 11/1/02; it has been 8 weeks. My attorney is also my landlordd and know I am going to use this money to relocated.

What does your landlord... I mean your attorney say? :-) It is one thing to settle, it is another to collect on that settlement. Sounds like the problem is with collecting. I would definitely get on the horn and ask what the hold up is.... 8 weeks is getting there, but I would try not to worry for at least another 4 weeks or so. But do call the parties in charge and ask what's going on.

I have called them numerous times; I was told it would take 4-6 weeks to collect. When I now ask why the hold up I am given the "some insurance companies are just slower" routine. One check has come in about 3 weeks ago but it is the lowest $$. Liabilitity was found to be 60/20/20. Biggest problem is, I have been made a job offer in Florida and have found a place to live; I thought for sure I would be available by 1/17. But that is looking more and more impossible. I have to give 30 days notice of moving and have told my job that I will be leaving but obviously I do not want to be out of a job for several weeks before being able to move on to my new location. I am wondering if there is a legal time limit for defendants to meet????
