| | | really controversial, needing advice. What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Arkansas
So, here we go, Hypothetically, say one night you were driving, by yourself, but you happened to have made the bad decision of driving on a suspended license, and then you also made the bad decision of losing control of the car and catching a curb with the drivers side tire, snapping the control arm, thus making the car un-driveable, when this happened you drove like 15 feet over some grass and two little flower beds, no wood around them, no outstanding damage, just tire tracks and smashed flowers. so you then park the car, and leave, to retrieve it in the morning. Only problem being the police happen to have been somewhere near you to see that you left the scene. now then, since you have a suspended DL, the friend decides to take the ticket for you. he gets a fleeing the scene ticket, Goes in front of the judge, is convicted, and sentenced to community service. On the first day of his community service, the officers tell him that they know it was you, and they are going to charge him with perjury if he doesn't tell them the truth. Which he does. they then turn it on you, giving a warrant for leaving the scene and driving on a suspended license. the friend has people who were at the house that evening who might be able to witness, im unsure, but im wondering, what would be your best course of action????? please help.

And if it's not a hypothetical...what did you attorney say when you asked him?

| | | I am kind of doubting this is hypothetical. Moron needs a lawyer, now. Was the car insured? Cause the owner and driver are still liable for the damage to the lawn and flower beds.

| | Dognabbit is it too much to ask that folk just tell the bloody truth when these things happen?! If OP had just admitted fault, etc., etc., then I'm guessing we wouldn't be having this discussion at all, would we?
That's a rhetorical

| | | Not to mention he was probably drunk and that's why he lost control...probably why his license was suspended in the first place. It's the number one reason why people flee on foot.

| | | reason well, its not hypothetical, obviously, lol, I have a lawyer, im going to enter a not guilty plea to prolong court, but i am just wondering i mean what are the possible repercussions of this, as i will be appearing in front of the same judge that he lied to, It seemed like it would be fine. but the officers were persistent about getting to me. |

| | | Well, you've compounded your original crime by about a hundred AND you gave your friend a criminal record! Have you no soul at all? I wouldn't be surprised if you got some jail time, and forget about ever getting your license back. Oh yeah and a big fat fine.

| | um, so for a leaving the scene of a crime and a driving on suspended after a DWI 1 a year ago, you think i will never have my license again? and I mean, we had no idea he was going to get a ticket. I guess I'm the bad guy, but i mean, I didn't mean to be, he offered to say it was him, he said well man just say its me, it will be better. and I agreed. So I mean I have a statement from him saying he did it and then one that he didn't.
I mean I am not trying to screw him, even though he reneged on his own idea.
so i mean i just came here for advice and now i really just feel like a bad person.
you say I have compounded my original crime by a hundred, what does that mean exactly? |

and that's on top of the original punishment of the original DWI.
you should feel bad. you did something extremely stupid. you should not be allowed your license back for a VERY LONG TIME. DO EXPECT TO GO TO JAIL. |
