Responsibility Of Car Rental

My car was parked in front of my home when it was hit by another car. The drivers insurance company totaled my car. The rental car they had been providing me was taken away the day after they sent me the papers to be filled out and send back. Then once they recieved these documents they would send me my money for the wrecked car. My question is, legaly how long do they have to provide me with a rental car in this type of situation? Don't they have to give me a realistic amount of time to find another car?
