school bus causes accident

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? california. While traveling east on a rural hwy. doing the posted speed limit of 55 mph. This was at 7:30am on a Wednesday, a school bus traveling west made a left turn in front of me.If I had swerved to my right, I would have hit the bus. In order to keep from hitting the bus I swerved to the left side of the road, and avoided it, but hit a van that was behind it.The bus kept going for almost a half a mile before stopping. The Hwy Patrol came to the scene, but no citations were issued. My car was totaled, and so was the van.And no paramedics were called to the scene, though I later learned the driver of the van went to the emergency room the next day. Can I hold the school district accountable for the damages to my car? Also this accident happened on a very clear morning, there was no reason for the bus driver to have not seen me.

Give all the info to insurance company. If van driver gives them same story, I'm sure your insurance company will attempt to collect from school district
