Serious accident please help !!!

my 17 year old son was in an accident on feb 19 a car pulled out in front of him going really slow so he decided to pass this car...as he was passing the driver of the car decided to make a left hand turn and cut accross the road in front of him and my son hit this car broadside...totaling his truck and this car and both these vehicles hit a parked van...luckily noone was killed...my son was really addled and scared and told the deputy that he didn't see the car ...it was a passing lane where my son was passing at...but because he said he didn't see the car it is being written on the accident report that it was his fault...he didn't see the car till it was to late was what he mean't ...i was told that anytime a car is hit broadside it is their fault. is there any truth to this and can we get the police report changed...should we seek a lawyer..our insurance is going to go through the roof...there was people hurt and i am afraid of being sued ...help!

Unlikely because it's based on statements your son made at the scene.

Do you have insurance? They'll provide a lawyer.

Your son needs to give the correct description of what happened to his insurance company. They will determine who is at fault, not the police. Once they determine that, they'll go after the other person's insurance if they find them to be liable.
