Does the attorney's percentage usually come off the top of the settlement total, before the medical bills are paid? Or, does it come off the remainder of the settlement, after the medical bills are paid? This is a significant difference.

Oregon has a law that can require ins. companies to pay the attorney's fees for personal injury cases under $5,500. Otherwise, it is up to the lawyer - some take a % of total recovery including med. expenses & some don't. You will have to check around & ask what different attorney's charge.
