settlement calculation

My wife and myself were involved in an auto accident in the State of Washington this last Jan. '01. The other driver was clearly at fault as she ran a stop sign. We have reached a settlement for the loss of our vehicle but now have hit a snag in reaching a settlement for medical costs, misc. property damage and "personal injury". Medical costs, lost time from work and misc. lost personal property values as easily determined and well documented. The issue is fair settle of "personal injury. What is a general rule of thumb for determining a dollar amount for settle of "personal injury". Both my wife and myself recieved minor injuries and to date appear to have no long term nor re-occuring accident related medical issues.
