settlement question

What is the name of your state? wa

What is the name of your state? Washington

ok so back in November i was in an auto accident i was rear ended by a kid who mistakenly hit his gas peddle instead of his brakes. I was put out of work for 4 1/2 months. It scrambled my brain pretty good for the whole time i was off i was going to therapy 4 days a week with a speech therapist, physiotherapist, Vistibular therapist and a physical therapist and at the end pool therapy. Ok so now my question. When i first started shopping for a lawyer they all told me that when it comes to settlement i get paid first then after i get my compensation the insurance companies get paid. I eventually found a lawyer i liked but now its getting close to settlement time and if im not mistaken hes telling me that the insurance companies are getting paid first then me? So how does that work arent i entitled to my pain and suffering my 4 1/2 months of lost wages my compensation first? I am still not 100% my vistibular is still messed up and even now today i am going in for nerve block surgeryfor chronic headaches. any help would be appreciated.

The insurance company that paid your medical bills instead of their insurance company is entitled to get reimbursed first, since they only paid out of courtesy. They were not required to pay, since this person had auto insurance.
