My 17 yea old daughter is going to receive a settlement from a car accident. Does she have to pay taxes on the money that she is awarded?
Settlements are not normally taxable unless they include punitive damages (which only a judge can award, rare) because they represent repayment for something lost. There may be exceptions though so check with a tax pro.
