should I get a lawyer?

What is the name of your state? WI
I was involved in an rear end colision Oct. 28,2005. I was a passenger in the back seat of the car. Our car was not traveling fast nor was the car that hit us. The accident occurred at a stop sign. I was taken to the hospital by ambulance and it was determined that I had a neck sprain. I did return to the doctor one other time since the acciden. The other drivers insurance company settled car damages with me and then offered to pay my medical expenses plus a $1000 cash to settle the claim. I didn't accept this offer because I'm not sure what to do. I haven't hired a lawyer and I'm not sure of the SOL in my state.
