Did you call the police?
Did you help the door?
Did you laugh?

Is this an issue that should go through your auto insurance to cover the mans medical expenses?

This was strictly a freak accident not an intentional act.

He can certainly try to make a claim against your automobile insurance. They will decide if they want to pay him or if the injury is the result of his abuse of your vehicle. He can certainly sue you and your insurance company for payment.

Your insurance company should provide legal representation in that case.

Why on earth would you want to cover injuries to someone who intentionally damaged your vehicle. You should have him pay for the damage he did, so your insurance company (or you eventually) do not end up paying for it yourself (or did you provoke him?).
