Speeding

New Jersey- Traveling about 70, got pulled over because I apprently went through a 45/ construction zone. The total fines are outrageous and I wasn't zooming down the highway, in fact I was the last car in the pack so i assume that is why i got caught. I was wondering if anyone could help me out with the court proceedure and just give me the low down on what to plea and how to act. I've neevr been to court and I'm incredibly intimatdated by cops and such (which is why i didn't open my mouth to begin with). Also if anyone could give me any idea as to whether or not i could get the points taken off...I'll pay the fine io just want the point reduced or gone. Thanks

I dont know about your case but a friend of mine got caught speeding 81 in a 65 and charges were dropped due to "faulty equipment" because she had a lawyer. I think ( I may be wrong) that they usually get reduced....like to a 74 in a 65 or something like that. You dont go in front of a jury or anything like that I dont think. Court Procedure: I think the DA usually handles them, thats how mine got handled. They ask how you want to plea...guilty, not guilty or you say your lawers name and he handles it. That is how they do drug cases in NC im not sure how they handle traffic violations in other states. Be very mannerly and dont go in there looking like a hardened criminal or anything like that. This is something you should totally discuss with your lawyer if you decide to get one. I'm not a lawyer but I have been to court countless times and I watch a lot of Judge Judy
Good luck to you and hope all goes well

Hello,
I know these things for a FACT. In Kansas, where I am from, you can take a "diversion" or get your ticket "ammended" what this basically does is change your moving violation to a non-moving violation. This in effect keeps you from getting points on your license and keeps it hidden from your insurance company. You need to contact the district attorney (prosecutor) of the county you got the ticket in and ask if "diversion" is possible. Here in Kansas, they cost about $100 extra. What the diversion basically is -- (here in Kansas of course) is you can not get a ticket withing the next 6 months or 1 year (it varies). If you do not, then everything is clean and dandy. But if you do get another traffic violation, you break your diversion contract meaning points for the orignal ticket go towards your license. I have gotten 2 tickets and done this for both of them. The true fact of the matter is -- they don't care if you were speeding**************they just want your money and that's the sad truth..

clarification: It's kinda like probation... but for traffic offenders.. heh. Look on the back of your ticket for contact info.
