What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? NY....

I was in a car accident in Jan 2001. Due to a prvate drive not being plowed, or sanded, and being that I was the ony form of transportation for my cousin, who rented the house at the end of the private drive, is there anything I can do to try to regain compensatory damages for negligence because her landlord didn't keep his agreement to plow and sand the driveway. PS the drieway is about 1 1/2 mile long, in a rural area.
I ended up losing my job, due to lack of transportation,I still had to pay back to car loan, my insurance didn't cover the entire cost of the car. It took me a long time to pay this off, being unemployed, my credit has been ruined, I am trying to rebuld my life again, and can now afford transportation, but I just recently heard that I might have had a claim to file against the landlord, which I always thought that I was stuck with all these expenses.

I am looking to find out what the statute of limitations is for a suit after an accident.
Or has the statute of limitations tolled.
