What is the name of your state? CA

My friend, who is actually a smart guy, has made a few very dumb mistakes in a row.

He got a DUI back in April or May, and is on the last 2 months of his suspended license. When he found his insurance rates were skyrocketing, he dropped one insurance and picked up another a few days later.

While uninsured and suspended, he bumped another car, which had hit the car in front of it.

He was hoping to settle it without insurance companies in the case they would notify the DMV. The amount is not much, but the other driver used his uninsured driver insurance. Now, of course, the insurance company has come to my friend and set up a payment plan, which he can afford. The insurance company sent him a affidavit that he needs to sign to agree to the payment plan. It mentions notifying the DMV.

He has no problem paying off the insurance company, but he is trying to figure out what will happen if the DMV is notified of his accident while suspended, and uninsured.

What can be expected to happen to him? He has no prior criminal record before the DUI. Is there a chance that the insurance will settle the claim without notifying the state?

Anything he can do to make his situation better?
