Taking the tires off of a vehicle

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Maine

I was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to remove a vehicles tires, without the consent of the owner, legally?

Recently I heard a rumor that another individual was planning on doing this to my car. He claimed that he had spoken with a state trooper and been informed that as long as he left the lug nuts, there was a legal way to do it....

Naturally, this sounds like vandalism to me, but there is a significant chance that he really did talk to that state trooper (the guy doesn't like me or my car) and if so, perhaps he really was informed of some legal method....

Thoughts?

Does he have rights to the tires, such as you haven't paid for them?

Why might he want to do something like that?

Maybe you should remove the wheels from a state police car and see what results. Be sure to leave them the lug nuts.

This trooper has a motion detector on his personal vehicle; obviously I'm not the only one he harasses... (This is the same trooper from my other thread btw)

The other individual has no rights to my tires. They were bought and paid in full at VIP. I'm just concerned that there is some obscure loophole that a state trooper would know about, that is going to leave me stranded without tires. I'm not sure if he plans on actually taking the tires or just removing them... if he takes them, they cost me over 400$...

Taking something from someone else WITHOUT their permission is theft. No, there are no obscure laws saying that certain items are exempt.

And flyingron was kidding k'? He wouldn't advocate you stealing from someone else.

Might not be a bad idea to go pick up a set of wheel locks though...just in case.
