Hi, my name is Melissa. I live in Sacramento, CA. I was raped by these two boys my sophomore year of high school. I told my mom, but she didn't do anything. I told my friends, I don't think they knew what to do or say, either. I was later in a class with one of the boys. He sat very close to me because we were seated in alphabetical order. I told my teacher after class was over that he had raped me. He had us "talk it out" in a room in the counceling office, alone. He admitted to raping me and asked me if I could forgive him. Those boys weren't the first to rape me and neither were they the last. I needed help so bad. I needed someone to tell me it wasn't my fault. It's still hard to see that it wasn't my fault. I was a minor and my teacher was a mandatory reporter. I don't know what to do, but I don't want anyone else to be told what they know to be real isn't.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Melissa Whaley

I am a law school graduate. What I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

I know how scary it can be to be in such a situation. You did the right thing by telling. These people who did nothing are complete morons in my book! Anyone who doesn't do something about it should be put in jail for committing the crime of ignorance.

Okay, ASAP, please march yourself down to your local legal aid foundation and ask for the section dealing with such matters. You can find legal aid by either calling 411 or looking it up in the community guide section of your yellow pages.

MORE IMPORTANTLY, CALL A RAPE HOTLINE (you can find that in your community guide too) and have them guide you through the legal and emotional healing process.

I hope this helps. My prayers are with you.

The rape is not your fault. But, if you've been raped more than once, you may be unknowingly doing something that causes predators to notice you. I recommend taking a self-defense course and learning more about what attracts sexual predators to their victims.

The following agencies have infomation that may help you in these areas.

Youth Crisis Hotline, 800-448-4663

I agree with the advice given. It is NOT your fault. Also, try counseling, in addition to the other advice. It can help and is confidential. A counselor can also help you get through this and build your self-esteem. I have read in various places that rapists tend to choose victims with low self esteem.

I wish you the best. Please get some help
