Hi,

So I was really lazy and didn't put the new sticker on to the license plate of my car. The old one expired 11/07, and of course I got a ticket on December 1st. I had the sticker in the glove compartment this whole time.

Can I contest the ticket?

Thanks!

Not sure but I would give it a shot. You had better have a receipt that shows you bought it before Dec 1 though.

I can't say it will happen in your case but I do know that they will sometimes dismiss the ticket if you can prove you bought the sticker before the expiration date.

Plead not guilty and bring proof that your plates weren't expired and they may dismiss it or possibly just reduce it. How much is the ticket though? As a non-moving violation it won't increase your insurance, so is it really worth appealing it?

The insurance/plate was paid for a long time ago, I just forgot to put it there. The ticket is $50, which is not a big deal, but I'm sure I could find a better way of spending it... :)

Thanks for all the responses, but I guess I'll just pay the ticket.

That a good idea. Because if you were cited for not displaying a valid sticker, then your only defense is that you WERE displaying a valid sticker.

My response would be different if you were cited for driving with an expired registration...but that's not the case.

Actually, the citation does say "expired plate", but I think I'm just gonna pay up and learn my lesson.

Just for the fun of it...what code section are you actually cited with? The written narrative means nothing.

You must have been a real jerk to the cop that gave you a ticket for being ONE day over especially if you had the sticker in your car. I have lived in law enforcement families my entire life and unless the cop was a total 100000% azzhole, you would not likely have gotten a ticket.

Humbling experience, ugh?

No, I'd never be a jerk to a cop (or anybody else), and I'm sure I could have talked my way out of it - if I hadn't been parked at the time... Ok, I was on a fairly busy street, but still, I was parked for like 30 minutes. So bad luck is all there is I think!

Dude go to court and fight it, it's the principle of the thing. To pay it is to reward the system, They have those amazing computers that can find out anything about you but that can't be troubled to run your plate, fight back.

Did you see the youtube video about the cop tazering a guy for refusing to sign his ticket http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMaMYL_shxc

or the classic blond ditz on a gameshow when asked "Budapest is the capitol of what European country?" Answers "I thought Europe was a country and they speak French." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANTDkfkoBaI

Mike - don't just make stuff up.

You don't even know what the OP was really cited for. If he was cited for failure to display a valid sticker, the the citation was absolutely valid. But, we won't know until later.

Apparently you didn't ... it was because he failed to comply with the officer, refused to sign the ticket, and then turned to walk BACK to his vehicle! The officer then had three choices:

(1) Let him go, and void the citation ...

(2) Go hands' on and hope that he could take the driver mano-a-mano - and risk greater injury or death to one or both of them as the wrestled on the roadway, AND hope that the passenger did not intervene.

(3) Incapacitate and detain the suspect with the Taser so that he could safely be controlled and taken into custody.

My biggest complaint with the officer's actions are that he did not immediately place the handcuffed prisoner into his car - instead, he cuffed him and let him roam about.

He was NOT hit with a Taser for refusing to sign a citation.

You know truthfully I wasn't as upset by this as I was by this (#1) (cops tazering an already subdued female) Because the motorist was talking too fast and very agitated, however that situation and this one (#2) (cop arresting teenagers for skaeboarding and using a choke hold on a 13 y.o. girl) could have been handled much better by a better trained officer

This Boston cop (#3) on the other hand stands tall dealing with this speed freak. It should be noted there's no help from citizens because it's Boston. the Boston police have had a tumultuous relationship with the citizens for years
