Titling a new vehicle - whose name should it be?

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? PA

We just purchases a car for our college age son (21) to use. He is still in school and financially dependent upon us. We are receiving conflicting advice on how to title the car for the best protection from liability in the event our son is involved in an accident.

Should the care be titled only in his name or our name or both?

Thank you

That decision is up to you.

If he/you can afford the higher rate as an only driver on the policy it is not a bad idea to register it in his name.

If you put it on your policy, if he has no accidents, no tickets, and over three years experience, the car should be able to get a lower rate on a multiple vehicle policy.
BTW Most two seat cars are considered ‘sport cars’ by the insurance companies and usually cost more.

There are a few agents that come to this site. They can give better advice

The best way to protect him and you from liability to have sufficient limits on your policy to cover any damage he is likely to cause.

Basically the driver and owner(s) can be held liable in case of an accident. So consider that when considering who to title it under and insurance coverage.
