uninsured injured victim

What is the name of your state?undefined Florida, I was recently involved as a passenger in a MVA. At the time of the accident my registered vechicle was not on the road, nor was it insured but I did not take the tags off and return them to the DMV which now I am being informed I HAD TO.
My question is what rights do I have to have my medical bills covered being that I was injured in the accident. I was told by the driver of the vechicle I was in to file it to his insurance being that FL is a no fault state. His insurance would cover my injuries. This is not was his insurance has told me. They told me I was on my own.
I don't feel I should be punished because of this accident. I thought I was doing the right thing by parking my car and traveling with someone else....apparently I would have been better off in my uninsured vechicle.
Please advise.
thank you

It's the responsibility of the driver's insurance company to cover you. The no fault laws do not apply since you were a passenger, not a driver.
