I was involved in an accident in which I was at fault, and at the time, my vehicle was not insured. I have recently received a few letters from the other party's insurance company requesting an amount of $4500!!! in which his SUV's bumper barely got bent, and I don't think his truck is worth that much anyway. I don't know what to do or whether or not to ignore the claim. I have not yet recieved any phone calls from them as I left the guy my phone number. I also haven't received any certified or return receipt mail.
WHAT SHOULD I DO??
PS: This occured in the state of california.

Find some money fast?????

Maybe be a topless dancer/stripper/escort to make some fast cash and pay it off?

They will sue you and they will have the bills and you will have to pay their legal fees...

maybe $4500 is getting off cheap?

I would advise you to NOT ignore this! If you had no insurance and don't pay they can and probably will sue you! Then you pay their attorney fees + court costs on top of interest if you continue to ignore them!

I would advise you to get you an attorney and find out what is going on. Don't put your head in the sand and ignore their requests cause they have the law on their side. I should know, I was involved in a car accident in 2000 and the guy who hit me had NO insurance...he ignored my requests...my damage was only 710.00 but he continued to ignore my requests...I took him to small claims court in Feb 2001 and he ignored me again and didn't show up in court...I got judgement totally 785.00..I still tried to collect...I even hired a collection agency..no help! I then found out here in the state of Florida you can suspend an uninsured drivers license, tag and registration for no payment of judgement for an auto accident....I did just that in Dec 2002 and within 3 weeks I got my money in hand. A whopping total of 900.00 because he decided to ignore me back since Aug 2000 and my judgement accrued interest all along!

I would hate to see them get a judgement for 4500.00 and then I can't imagine the interest accrued on that much money OUCH
Plus along with if your state is a mandatory insurance state then they can take away your driving privileges.
